How To Stop Cats Spraying In Your House

The old wives tale is that only tom cats spray inside the home. Unfortunately it is only that, a myth. In many instances males and females alike spray inside. They do it for a multitude of different reasons.

Often there is not much we as owners can do to prevent it. It is most often considered a territorial issue with cats.

One major reason cats spray is to “mark their territory”. The dominant male cat sees it as a warning to other cats that they are in charge and are the ruler of their home or garden. You may find male cats are likely to spray directly in front of others, felines and humans alike with no discrimination. When a male cat sprays it is a very thick, sticky and obnoxious spray.

Another cause for cats spraying is when a new cat is added to the home. Whether it be a kitten or an adult cat the original cat will understand that as a threat. As the spraying starts you will need to be ready to disinfect and retrain your kitty with each and every spray.

A more plausible reason to feline spraying is the introduction of new furniture, accessories or people. As this is a tricky one to avoid, since our lives are always changing and getting better, the cats have a harder time dealing with change. When you introduce new furniture it may have the smell of the factory on it and they are threatened by it.

There are three things to keep in mind as a simple solution to ridding your home of the dreaded smell of spraying done by your cats. White vinegar and water, baking soda and water and hydrogen peroxide (no water). These are all three home remedies that have been proven over the years to be effective. Now you can enjoy your home with your feline friends even more than before.

Selecting the Right Dog Halloween Costume For Your Dog

As Halloween approaches, you may wonder what to get your pooch attired in for the big event. With the selections available, you are sure to find exactly what you want.

Taking your own efforts into consideration, you will want a costume that is easy to put on your dog. Velcro closures do simplify the process, but some costumes have too long a belly seam for male dogs. For this reason, tabs may be a better choice for your male dog.

It makes no difference whether your dog weighs two pounds or two hundred, the only thing that matters is whether your dog likes to get dressed up. There are some dogs that you cannot persuade to dress and be cute. Others think it is just the thing to play dress up for the holiday.

If you have ever been to a Halloween costume party for dogs you have probably seen costumes of many varieties. The traditional to the most unlikely, all will be evident at these events. Every dachshund owner has the thought of dressing their pooch as a hot dog. It is cute, but predictible. Perhaps for something different you may want to dress them up as hamburgers. Hamburger costumes are available and it will show how creative you are.

Maybe that 160 pound mastiff can go as a ballerina. Now that would be an attention getter for sure. It all depends on the demeanor of your dog. If it is one that objects to having a collar placed around the neck, it probably won’t want to wear anything other than the collar when you go to a party.

Dogs do have feelings. Some like the revelry associated with dress-up parties and some do not. It depends on their tolerance. If they will let you put a hat or a pair of sunglasses on them, you may have reached the limit. Others will allow the dress, but will not let you touch the head. You know your dog best and should judge your choice of outfit on what will allow the dog to be comfortable.

Small dogs are cute no matter what they are dressed as. A dog that is easy to dress will probably strut their stuff when they get to the party. Boots and shoes may not go well on your dog. If you have ever seen the awkward gait that a dog with boots has, you will understand. It appears they are trying to step out of a mud puddle with each step. Perhaps you need to stop at the costume level.

If you are planning on hosting a Halloween party for your dogs and his friends, you may decide to put a theme to it. Selecting fairy tales is always popular. The female dogs can come as Cinderella or Alice in Wonderland. The boys can come as Prince Charming or the mad hatter. Most of the other fairy tales have costumes available as well. From Little Red Riding Hood to Batman, someone has already thought of it.

A quick search on the internet will yield all of the fairy tale or other costumes that are available today. Watch your prices and your shipping costs. There are times when you can visit a local pet store and possibly pay a little more, but come out ahead, due to the shipping. If you have a particular costume that you must have though, it may not be available at the local pet store.
