Dog House Training: Don’t Confuse Your Dog

One of the most common mistakes that dog owners make when trying to train their pet is sending mixed messages. Dogs have to be given clear and consistent commands.

A great example of this is when an owner is trying to get his dog to move off the sofa. Quite often an owner will say to the animal ‘get down’. Now this is fine, if you use this phrase all the time and for nothing else. But if you also use the ‘down’ when trying to get the dog to lay ‘down’ on the floor, you have just confused the dog. You have actually told your dog to lay on the couch. You must be careful and consistent in the commands you give when dog house training. Instead try using the command ‘move’ or ‘off’.
