Dog Treat Recipes

Making natural dogs treats at home in your own kitchen is great for your dog and fun for you too! Homemade dog treats contain only the fresh wholesome ingredients you put into them, and what’s more, these treats are a great way to get herbal remedies and supplements into your dog while making him feel pampered and happy. If you grow your own herbs, (which is not hard to do at all; many common herbs will come up year after year after only one planting), you will also save yourself money.

Parsley and mint are great for banishing bad breath in dogs. The following recipe uses both, plus a tough of activated charcoal. (You can find activated charcoal in a heath food store, not in your grill!!)

Homemade Dog Treat Recipes - Magic Bad Breath Banisher

2 cups brown rice flour
1 Tablespoon activated charcoal
3 Tablespoons canola oil
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped fresh mint
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
2/3 cup low-fat milk

Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly oil a cookie sheet. Combine flour and charcoal. Add all the other ingredients and drop teaspoonfuls onto an oiled cookie sheet, about 1 inch apart. Bake 15-20 minutes. Store the cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Not all treats have to be baked in the oven. Many dogs benefit from a little bit of healthy oil sprinkled over their food each night. This simple addition makes the food tastier and gives their coats a shine. It also aid digestion and helps prevent dry skin, hot spots, and scratching.
