Why Poodle Grooming Is So Important

Sure poodles are fantastic dogs, but it is important that anyone considering getting a Poodle understand about Poodle grooming and what is entailed in it. Poodles require a lot more care and maintenance than most other breeds of dog, and so this is really not the ideal breed for people who are busy and hardly ever home.

Not only does it take a lot of time to groom them properly, but they also just need a lot of attention. They are very high maintenance dogs and get frustrated if they are left alone even for just a few hours. They will even lash out if their owners leave them alone for a longer period of time than they would like, by barking incessantly or chewing destructively. They are beautiful dogs though and as long as they are well cared for and groomed on a regular basis, they will be happy and will show nothing but love and affection.
One of the first and most important things that should be attempted when it comes to Poodle grooming is clipping. Their fur grows very long very quickly and so it is important to keep them properly clipped, particularly so that they will not get mats and tangles in their fur. A Poodle owner should be careful and cautious when first introducing their puppy to the clippers, because puppies are usually afraid of the loud noise that they make.

The best idea is to stand a few feet away from the dog and turn the clippers on for a minute. This way the dog can become accustomed to the sound of the clippers and will understand that they are not going to hurt them. The dog should be handled firmly but gently, and it is important to make them realize that this is not time for them to play. Only use actual puppy clippers so that there will be no risk of injuring the dog.
Besides the perfect Poodle puppy cut there are a few other tasks that also need to be completed for proper grooming. This includes eye cleanings for one, and this is especially important with Poodles because almost all of them have runny eyes. This can end up staining the fur around their eyes and sometimes even permanently. Keep in mind however that a Poodle will not have runny eyes because they were bred improperly or because they are sick, but rather because their tear ducts are too small to accommodate the tears that their eyes produce.

Bathing is also a very important part of Poodle grooming, and should be done at least once or twice every week. The Poodle should be bathed in warm water and a mild dog shampoo should be used. Human shampoo should never be used because this will only result in giving them dry skin and possibly even dandruff too.

As long as a person is willing to put forth the time and effort that is required for proper Poodle grooming, this will make a great choice of breed for a pet. The proper Poodle grooming supplies are going to be needed in order to give the dog the grooming that they require.
