The Advantages of Doggie Doors

There are several advantages that you can get from doggie doors. Today, more and more dog owners and lovers are starting to see the benefits that doggie doors have for them and their dogs. First of all, your dog will be more independent. Your dog will see that they do not have to rely on you every time they want to go outside. It doesn’t matter if they need to relieve themselves or they just want to get some fresh air and exercise, the result is that they will lead a happier life.

There are benefits for you too, for example, your dog won’t damage your door anymore when it scratches it to indicate that it wants to go out. If your dog has to go to the bathroom and especially if you are in bed or otherwise cannot hear your dog whining to go out they will probably try jumping up on the door and could cause scratching as a result.

And of course, if you have a doggie door installed, you won’t have to worry about having to clean up after your dog because you weren’t at home when the dog had the urgency to relieve itself.

DIY

If you like the idea of having a doggie door installed, there’s a way you can make it affordable. Instead of paying a professional company to come and do the work for you, this is a great DIY project you can take on yourself. Doggie doors are easy enough to install that you can actually do it yourself with a few tools and by buying the supplies. You simply need a saw, ruler, and the right doggie door fixings. This should be a package that comes with not only the actual dog flap but also screws to attach it to the door and in most cases a template as well that you can use to draw onto the door.

It is easiest to take the door off before getting to work on installing doggie doors. In this way, you can lay the door on an horizontal position or on a table or other object that will make the job easier. Always measure twice and cut once. The height and width of the doggie door must be spaceful enough for your dog not to have to crouch when it uses the door.

Remember to leave a little extra space so that your dog doesn’t get stuck or hurt.
