Stop Dog Barking - Understanding and Dealing with Incessant Barking
Dogs can be a nuisance - they chew up your shoes, knock over items in the house, and even claw up your favorite furniture. Of course, your neighbors will not be complaining so long as they are not bothered by your dog. So if your dog happens to bark long and loud at night, that’s a bother. This nuisance is bad for home owners. You could get evicted if you’re renting, especially when you can’t stop your dog from barking. Fortunately, dog bark collars can do most of the work for you.
There is an issues some dog owners face with bark collars - whether these collars are humane to use on dogs. The idea seems to be that bark collars are founded on the thought that pain is to be used to deter dog behavior of certain kinds. Truth is the device on the bark collars aim to “interrupt” the dog’s barking by releasing various types of stimulus; this is farm from inflicting pain. The more often every bark is interrupted, the more annoyed the dog gets, the less it barks. Over time the dog avoids barking to avoid the interruption. This interruption comes in the form of either a spray, a low-volt shock, or a high-pitched sound. They do not pose any danger to your dog.
There’s the spray type, the shock type, and the sound type. The spray bark collar, also called a Citronella collar, uses as bark-deterrent, a chemical derived from the Citronella plant. Since dog’s have a heightened sense of smell, the sprayed scent grabs its attention, and disrupts his barking. It’s no more painful than speaking intently and being distracted by someone’s perfume.
The shock collar operates on the same interruption principle, but with a low volt shock in place of the scent. The shock is so low it cannot be compared to getting electrocuted. The last type of bark collar, the sound or ultrasonic type, uses a high-frequency sound to jar the dog’s barking habit; the sound cannot be heard by humans. As with the previous two collar types, the stimuli, the sound, is enough to annoy the dog.
These electronic collars run on batteries. The trigger mechanism of each collar type, at least on the high quality types, is comprised of two sensors. The stimulus (i.e., spray, shock, sound) is released once your dog’s throat vibrates, along with the loud sound of its barking. With this set up in place, there will be no stimuli released when a loud truck’s sound reaches the collar; there will be no mis-shocks, sprays, or sounds released.
To stop your dog from barking is as easy as shopping for the right kind and size of bark collars. Many online guides for breeds and weight recommendations for collars are available. Read customer reviews to get an idea of what you’d like for your dog.
