Puppy Training Tips

So, you have brought your puppy home and mistakenly believe it is all going to be easy. At least that’s what you thought before you walked through the front door and realised that you were going to have to teach your dog proper social behaviours.

You could book yourself and your pup onto a dog training course, or alternatively you can try training the dog at home with some store bought toys and reading material. Before allowing your head to spin wondering what to buy, or not buy, you should start with a basic dog training manual.
Toilet training is a huge issue for new dog owners and if this is a problem you are facing then you should buy a specialist guide. If your dog is not quickly toilet trained you will end up with an unpleasant living situation, an unhappy pet and an even more disappointed owner, so you need to nip this issue in the bud as quickly as possible. If there are children in your household then incorporate them into the training routine. This means the dog responds to them in the same was as it does to you.

Moving on from toilet training you will need to teach your dog obedience. This is equally important, whether at home indoors or outside on a lead.Getting the right dog lead can be tricky as there are literally hundreds on the market. One good leash for puppy training is a retractable version, where you can control the distance the puppy can walk from you. These are widely available from good pet stores.

The food you provide your puppy with is also important as it can have an effect on their behaviour.Try and feed your puppy a good quality puppy food as this will provide all the right vitamins and minerals required in this early stage of life.Pet food treats are a great tool to use when training your puppy. They are the ideal reward for good behaviour, so use sparingly and never spoil your puppy with them. For the sake of your new pet, remember to always feed healthy and nutritious food each and every time. You are setting them up for the rest of their life so your puppy’s future really is in your hands.
