Pet Rats: The Positive And The Cons If You Desire To Keep One In Your Home

Pet rats are an on going trend in pet choices. Even though a lot of individuals would still prefer dogs or cats over them, rats are actually getting popular to be kept as pets. Rats are pests to some, but others think otherwise. They can actually be really cute in a sense that you couldn’t resist having them as pets. Just like keeping any other pet, there are pros and cons in having rats as pets in your home. The following are the things that you need to realize:

Pet rats have plenty of positive things to offer us. To begin with, they are not noisy. Rats are actually social and are very smart. They can be trained to know where to poop, know their name, and most especially, they can be trained to do tricks. Rats do not smell bad so you won’t have to wash them often. They don’t bite you, unless if you torture them, not feed them, or treat them really bad. Just like cats and dogs, they too can recognize their master. They play a lot so you will really enjoy watching them. Lastly, maintaining them costs very little in comparison to other pets such as dogs or cats; they are even cheaper to keep than birds.

What’s bad about having rats as pets? First is that they tend to be very sickly. Females usually grow tumors. Do not be worried about their disease, usually the disease do not transfer to humans. They need a partner in order to be happy. Keeping a rat alone is never a good idea. It might not get tamed or possibly it will die from sickness. Pet rats only has a life span of 2-3 years. A very short time for pet lovers. You get attached to them very quickly so you will most likely get devastated once they die. However, now that you know this, you can always prepare yourself to set them free from this world after their short life span.

These are the pros and cons in keeping pet rats. Others might regard to them as pests but actually, they can be kept as pets. Not only are they interactive and fun to watch, they are also very cheap to maintain. They have a short life span so you have to be prepared. What you can do is prepare yourself for this event and try to get a few more rats. If you would like, you can try to have a male and a female so they can breed. Love them so they will love you back in return.
