Horse Fencing Wood, Plastic Or Barbed Wire?
Not everyone knows which horse fencing material they want by the time they start shopping around. There are a lot of things you have to take into consideration, not least the safety of your horses and the durability of the fence. Consider it an investment, in which case you don’t want to be replacing it often.
In order to make your horse fencing decision as simple as possible, let’s take a look at the different types of fencing that you can buy.
1. Wood
Wood is a very traditional form of horse fencing. Wooden fencing has been used for both horse fencing and garden fencing for a long time. It is a very likeable choice for horse fencing, but it does have its downsides. The main thing to bear in mind is that it doesn’t help the environment. Wooden fences often have to be replaced quite frequently which contributes to the environmental damage.
2. Plastic
Plastic is a modern-day alternative to the traditional wooden horse fencing, and it is a great choice. There is a lot that can be done with plastic horse fencing and this makes it more attractive and also better for the environment. Think of it like this – if we all stopped using wood and used plastic instead, there wouldn’t be as much environmental damage. It is a good idea to try plastic horse fencing if you haven’t done so before, as you might be pleasantly surprised at just how good it is.
3. Barbed Wire
Not many people still use barbed wire for horse fencing to be honest. Animal lovers would argue that this is not a good horse fencing choice as the horse could wander up to the fence and hurt themselves on the barbed wire. Young children would have to be kept away from the fence so its worth looking at plastic horse fencing instead.
You could always consider some of the other horse fencing options, like the electric fence, but in all honesty, it is the plastic fence which is the safest and most environmentally friendly option.
