Doggie Doors: Freedom for Your Dog

There are several advantages that you can get from doggie doors. Nowadays, more and more dog owners are getting one or more of them installed on their houses due to the advantages it brings. First of all, your dog will be more independent. Your dog will see that they do not have to rely on you every time they want to go outside. It doesn’t matter if they need to relieve themselves or they just want to get some fresh air and exercise, the result is that they will lead a happier life.

Another benefit of the doggie doors is that you will no longer have to worry about having dog scratches up and down your door and wall. You also won’t have to wake up in the middle of the night because your dog ate something that made it sick and desperately needs to go out.

But most of all, with a doggie door, you won’t have to come home and clean up after your dog becuase it had to relieve itself and no one was around to let it go outside.

DIY

If you like the idea of having a doggie door installed, there’s a way you can make it affordable. Instead of paying someone from a company to come install it at your home, you can install it yourself as a type of do it yourself project. It’s easy to install doggie doors if you have a few tools, that’s why many people chose to do it this way. You have to have a saw, a ruler, a pencil or someting to mark a guiding line, and the doggie door fixings. Hardware stores and sometimes pet stores will sell you the whole package that includes the materials, the nuts, bolts and nails, a template, and a plan, so all you really need to get are the tools, and perhaps you have those already.

Building experts and carpenters usually recommend that doors should be unhinged before doggy doors are installed on them to make the process easier. In this way, you can lay the door on an horizontal position or on a table or other object that will make the job easier. Always measure twice and cut once. Make sure the doggie door is not only situated high enough up on the door to make it convenient for the dog to walk through the door but also the width must be large enough.

You do not want your dog to end up getting stuck while going through the door so it is always important to leave a bit of extra room for the safety and comfort of the dog
