Does Puppy Farming Affect Dog Health Care?

Anybody considering bringing home a new puppy should carefully consider where to buy it from.If you buy a puppy from the wrong source you might end up with heart breaking dog health care problems on your hands. This is because of the danger of unwittingly buying a puppy who was born in a puppy farm.

Puppy farms and their owners show no regard for dog health care. Indeed, farmed puppies are rarely healthy. They frequently suffer serious physical and psychological ill health.Farmed puppies are likely to demonstrate behavioural problems.

These problems are down to the conditions in which these puppies are kept. Conditions are very poor because profit is really the only concern of the owners. The dogs have little or no space to exercise and nearly no contact with humans.

Health wise the dogs suffer too. Only cheap, poor quality food is fed and the mothers are malnourished.Female dogs are bred as often as is possible from the age of four months until death or sickness stops them. This frequent breeding leaves both mother and puppies unhealthy. Puppies are removed from their mother’s care too early so that she may be forced to have another set. This, coupled with a lack of contact with humans leads to dog health care problems and behavioural disorders.

Unfortunately, shop-bought puppies are almost certainly sourced from puppy farms, so it is not a good idea to buy from pet shops.Internet and newspaper adverts are also risky. This is why anybody considering buying a puppy from an advert should insist on seeing the puppies with their mother and even the father if possible.Any seller who makes excuses when asked this is not to be trusted.Farmed puppies might be offered cheaper than the going rate, but the saving is next to nothing when extra future vet bills, behavioural problems and heart break are taken into account. Reputable breeders stay well away from puppies from farms, so other dog owners may be able to recommend local breeders.
