Chain Link Fences and Dogs
I used to have Basset Hounds and a 5 foot tall chain link fence. (I’m sure your first thought was “so What?”, but I’m going somewhere with this, so hold on…) The thing about Basset Hounds is that they’re short. If it wasn’t for gravity, their stupid little legs wouldn’t even touch the ground. But, unbeknownst to most people, Basset Hounds can climb chain link fence. Another thing that most people don”t know, is that Bassets can chew through wire. My Bassets spent a ton of time wandering the neighborhood, because they either chewed through the chain link fence, or used the corner of the chain link fence as a ladder, and just climbed out.
So, if you’ve got dogs who can chew through wire, climb chain link fence, or jump over 4 feet high(Mine couldn’t do that…), then you should hire a professional fence builder. A professional fence contractor will be able to tell you how high the fence should be built, what kind of material should be used, and whether or not you’re still going to need to nail your dog’s foot to the ground to keep it in it’s kennel.
