Pets have always and will always be an important part to many cultures. Anyone who has had a pet knows the feeling of love and relaxation that an animal can give to a family. All the care and money that goes into maintaining a pet is certainly worth it in the love and affection paid back by the animal. Some of the more popular pets in the Western world include dogs, cats, birds and marine life like fish or turtles. Sometimes though the family members have problems and have to be treated for health issues. For example, dogs occasionally have issues and get dog arthritis and dog diarrhea. When the dog gets sick they cost money to take care of. However, as previously stated any animal that gets sick generally makes it worth the families while by being a good pet and having a long, happy life.

One of the commonly known animals to own as a pet is a cat. Cats are known as being far more aloof than their canine counterparts and therefore are probably slightly less popular. However, many cats buck that trend and love kindness and care from their owners. Cats come in all shapes and sizes but generally weigh an average of nine to eleven pounds. Some of the most popular kinds of cats in the country are the Persian, Siamese, and Maine Coon cats. Cats are generally to be fed twice a day and one good thing is they typically have less energy and need less exercise than other types of pets.

Another popular pet in the Western hemisphere is the bird. Birds are less time consuming than cats. While they sometimes might want to fly around the house a little bit, they generally just sit in the living space the owner has given them. Also, as far as feeding goes birds need less food and don’t eat very much. One could probably effectively feed a bird just by leaving some bird seed in a bowl in it’s cage, leaving the bird to pick at it’s cuisine as it chooses. A well known kind of bird to own is the parrot. Parrot’s generally squawk a lot and sometimes picks out phrases to yell from the owner, which could get annoying to families with foul mouths. So remember, only nice words around the bird.

Finally, some marine life are very popular in Western cultures. Some people have in their home a group of fish or a turtle or something that they keep as a pet. The downside to having marine life as a pet is that they are typically very much less responsive and interactive than a cat or other mammal usually are. This could make the pet somewhat boring and not as fun in the eyes of certain pet owners. However, for those looking for an animal that’s easy to take care of, a turtle or fish could be just the kind of pet they want.

Pets are an important part of every culture around the world. Everyone who has had an animal as a pet knows the deep connection felt between animal and human. Hopefully that is something that never changes in society.
